What is Servsafe Food Safety Managers Certification

ServSafe is a food and beverage safety training and certificate program administered by the National Restaurant Association. The program is accredited by ANSI and the Conference for Food Protection. Sanitation certification is required by most restaurants as a basic credential for their management staff.

Although many websites claim the Servsafe exam can be taken at home online, this is in fact false. The Servsafe can be taken online as long as a registered Servsafe proctor is present. Many companies offer online training, and this may be suffice for some participants Westchester Food Safety does offer online classes for Spanish and Chinese speakers who wish to take the course and exam in their native language.

ServSafe is valid for five years and accepted by most federal, state and local jurisdictions. However, this requirement may vary depending on the local requirements in your area, and possibly your own organization’s standards. Check with your local health department, Westchester county requires Servsafe certification in any food establishment.
